Paper Pak Industries

Consumers rely heavily on companies like Paper Pak Industries (PPI), although they might not completely realize it. It’s safe to say, however, that if PPI’s products were not available to its diverse customer base, commercial packaging would be much less safe and appealing to consumers.

Founded in 1960, PPI says it is the largest manufacturer in North America dedicated solely to the manufacturing of absorbent mediums for the food, medical and safety industries. Based in La Verne, Calif., the operation describes itself as a “dynamic, vertically integrated company” that remains focused exclusively on the absorbency market.

“With over 50 years of experience, we are the preferred supplier of absorbent products to the leading food processors, supermarkets, packaging manufacturers, medical facilities, first responders, industrial manufacturers and commercial facilities,” the company says. “Paper Pak Industries continues to pioneer the commercial absorbency market. Our two vertically integrated manufacturing facilities feature state-of-the-art equipment and systems that allow us to manufacture innovative products that deliver unique absorbency solutions.”

‘Innovative Products that Deliver’

PPI operates two vertically integrated manufacturing facilities – one at its office in California and another in Georgia – that enable it to respond to specific customer requirements. The company notes each of its plants offer an environmentally friendly paper mill, modern and high-speed converting lines, and large storage and distribution facilities. PPI explains that its Southern California site includes a state-of-the-art microbiology lab and research center that utilizes the latest technology and equipment to develop new value-added absorbent products.

“PPI continues to invest in state-of-the-art equipment and systems that allow us to manufacture innovative products that deliver unique absorbency solutions,” the company says. “Paper Pak Industries has revolutionized the application of active constituents inside absorbent mediums. Each of these value-added food, medical and safety products is improving the effectiveness of the absorbent application.”

A big focus of PPI’s operation is on protecting the environment and remaining environmentally friendly in its actions and use of products. The company says it is committed to a dynamic, earth-friendly approach to doing business, and remains unique in the absorbent industry by being “structurally green.”

PPI notes it has understood the importance of good corporate citizenship since it was established in 1960. Additionally, for more than 50 years, much of PPI’s product line has been based on the use of recycled materials. The company’s Clean Green environmental program is the result of its commitment to being an efficient, socially conscious company and involves:

    > Conserving, reusing and recycling;
    > Eliminating, reducing and disposing of waste;
    > Developing safe, sustainable products;
    > Making environmental stewardship part of its business relationships;
    > Continually improving its performance.

“Clean Green has produced several earth-friendly products and operations processes that are unique to our industry,” the company says. “Central to Clean Green’s success is PPI’s unending search for new ways to create sustainable products that provide environmental benefit. Clean Green is saving thousands of trees annually, conserving natural resources, reusing recycled products, reducing and composting waste, cleaning process water and emitting fewer greenhouse gases. Paper Pak Industries has been recognized for our Clean Green recycling and energy conservation efforts.”

Reliable Products

PPI has become a leader in its market not just because of its responsible operations, but also because of the quality, reliability and flexibility of its products. In the food industry, for example, PPI serves food processors, retail grocers, packaging manufacturers, packaging distributors and the fresh produce market. To ensure it delivers the right absorbent product for its clients’ needs, it offers pads that are open on all four sides or sealed; pads in an unlimited range of absorbent levels; pads with active components that can extend the freshness of packaged food.

“Consumers prefer to buy packaged meat, poultry, seafood and produce with little or nor excess juice,” the company says. “A clean, appealing package can mean the difference between a lifelong customer and a dissatisfied shopper.”

In the medical market, PPI works with a team of military medical and absorbency experts to develop a portable litter system designed to safely transport injured personnel. The company says its Absorbent Patient Litter System (APLS) is designed to quickly relocate injured military personnel and civilians to the appropriate medical facility where necessary medical procedures can be safely administered.

“APLS products improve the safety and comfort of injured personnel and their medical responders, and are ideal for use in military, mass casualty, mass fatality, and search-and-rescue operations,” PPI says. “APLS products are rugged and lightweight, feature a compact design and can be carried anywhere, enabling first responders to respond quicker and more efficiently.”

PPI’s safety products aim to help hotels, restaurants and public buildings protect people against slip and fall accidents. The company notes the speed and efficiency of the clean up process is critical to ensuring a safe, accident-free shopping and work environment.

“Paper Pak Industries has developed a smart and simple way for retailers and facility managers to quickly provide a safe resolutions for spills of any size,” the company says. “UltraZapSpillGuard pads are a fast and safe way to initialize the clean up process and mark an are as a hazard to surrounding patrons and employees while minimizing liability damages for negligence.”
